GST Return is a document that mentions all details related to GST invoices, payments, and receipts for a specific period. A taxpayer is liable to declare all transactions related to the revenue of the business based on which the authorities will calculate the amount of tax to be paid by the business.

Late fees for GST Retrun:
GST return filing is mandatory for registered persons even if there is no sale or purchase for a particular period then also need to file NIL return for that period.

Interest on outstanding Tax amount
An interest at the rate of 18% per annum will be charged on the outstanding tax in case of delayed GSTR filing. Interest is calculated from the next day of the due date. Moreover, an interest has to be paid when a taxpayer claims excess Input Tax Credit (ITC) or reduce output tax liability in excess at the rate of 24% per annum.
NOTE: The interest rate & late filing fees are subject to change as per CBIC notifications.
