M  SME is an acronym for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. MSMEs are basically small-sized businesses defined in terms of their investment. MSME Registration is also known as Udyog Aadhaar Registration.  Its is a twelve digit Unique Identification Number provided by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India for small and medium enterprises in India. It is also known as Aadhaar for Business.

As of April 2020, more than 94 lakh MSMEs in India are registered under Udyog Aadhaar. MSME registration or Udyog Aadhaar can be obtained by any type of business entity, namely, Proprietorships, Hindu Undivided Family, Partnership Firm, One Person Company, Limited Liability Partnership, Private Limited Company, Public Company, Producer Company, any other undertaking.

Obtaining MSME registration or Udyog Aadhaar is not mandatory and is at the sole discretion of the Entrepreneur. However, if we Don’t get registered under MSME, may loose benefits like Loan without Guarantee, Exemption in the Interest rate, Concession in electricity bill and other 12 benefits.
